SAKE2020 #11 Sake Salon with Mizubasho
The photo above is not a Champagne. It's a sparkling sake!
"Mizubasho Pure" is one of the flagship sakes of Nagai-shuzo. Sparkling-type sake has become popular these days among the younger generation, but it is the first Champagne style pasteurized sparkling sake with a good amount of delicate gas and without any sediment left in the bottle.
It was a long road of trial-and-error to find the best balance of gas so that the bottle doesn't break during the process of pasteurization. This method is now patented by Nagai-shuzo.
Nagai-shuzo is located in the center of Kawaba in Gunma. Kawaba is a small village in a rural area. It's not a convenient place, but it is blessed with beautiful nature and different scenery during the four seasons. It is surrounded by fruit trees, rice fields, forests, and clear water from a creek.
Noriyoshi Nagai, the president of Nagai-shuzo, says that he loves Kawaba more than any other place in the world. Nagai-san's visit to this month's Sake Salon event will be a great opportunity for you to taste some delicious sake and hear from him about the story of his brewery and the charm of Kawaba.
