Little Indias of Singapore Series - High Street
This series reconstructs the experiences of early Indians in Singapore and their areas of settlement. In the last lecture of this four part lecture series, Lakshmanan Subbiah will speak about High Street.
About the Speaker
Lakshmanan Subbiah is a fourth generation Chettiar whose great-grandfather came to Singapore around 1892. Three generations of his family lived in Market Street and were money lenders and he himself grew up in Market Street where the current UOB building is. History is one of his hobbies and he stays focused on preserving Chettiar heritage in Singapore. He is an amateur historian with interests in Colonial Singapore.
