Golden Point Award 2017 Workshop Series – English Poetry is back by popular demand after a sold-out run on May 20!

About the Workshop:

Golden Point Award 2017 Workshop Series – English Poetry is back by popular demand after a sold-out run on May 20!

About the Workshop:

What makes for a remarkable poem, one that garners a judge’s attention in a literary competition? In this session, participants workshop their best pieces, in better understanding their own writing voice and process. Is your poem new and innovative — is it bringing something exciting to the table? Elements of poetic craft will be explored, including imagery, metaphor, sentiment, euphony, syntax, lineation, theme, tone, among others. Each participant will receive a set of published poems by award-winning authors, to get an immediate sense of current trends within contemporary poetics. Writers immerse themselves in this open and creative space, one that welcomes a diverse range of aesthetic sensibilities.

Participants should also send one sample of their work to gpa@artshouse.sg by 21 June. This is at the request of the facilitator.

About the Facilitator:

Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé is the author of an epistolary novel, two hybrid works, and eight poetry collections. A former journalist, he has edited more than fifteen books and co-produced three audio books. Trained in publishing at Stanford University, Desmond studied sociology and mass communication at the National University of Singapore, and later received his theology masters (world religions) from Harvard University and fine arts masters (creative writing) from the University of Notre Dame. Among other accolades, Desmond is the recipient of the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award, Independent Publisher Book Award, National Indie Excellence Book Award, Poetry World Cup, Singapore Literature Prize, two Beverly Hills International Book Awards, three Living Now Book Awards, and seven USA Regional Excellence Book Awards. He helms Squircle Line Press as its founding editor.

About the Golden Point Award:
