Your tour begins at Telok Ayer Green and ends at the 40 metre wall mural, by Yip Yew Cheong at Amoy Street.
Sited next to well-known Telok Ayer Street which houses several national monuments, Amoy Street has nonetheless stood her own ground as another good heritage ‘hood with her own heritage and history to unravel. Find out about the original shoreline and the early migrants who set foot there. Hunt down an old well, locate the site of the first Anglo-Chinese School started in the 19th century. Step some 20 years further back in time and enter a compact little temple which will be celebrating her 150th birthday this year. Discover which deity the temple was originally dedicated to. The end point of your tour will be at the latest addition to Amoy Street - the 40 metre wall mural, by Yip Yew Cheong, depicting the life of Singapore's early Hokkien immigrants (lots of photo opportunities here). And, throughout the 45-minute walk, don’t forget to appreciate the varied and lovely shophouses lining both sides of Amoy Street.
