Description
A Chan Ngee 灿艺 and Chinatownology to share more about the cultural heritage of Chinatown in Singapore, better known as Da Po 大坡.

How to determine if a piece of Buddhist art is good?

This is a “survival guide” to Buddhist art.
We introduce the Buddhas and Bodhisattivas commonly seen in Chinese monasteries. More importantly, we give you the tips to identify them.

These knowledge enable you to acquire in depth appreciation of Buddhist art and to identify sculptures in monasteries. These insight in turn gives you clues to understand the monasteries and its history.

We will organise tours where you can apply your new found knowledge!

The venue
The talk is held at Chan Ngee 's 2nd storey Jubilee hall “长庆厅”that has a wide collection of Buddhist art. After the talk, you can admire the sculptures shown during the presentation. And if you really like it, you can even buy it.

About the Speaker
Chan Chow Wah is a Fellow of Royal Anthropological Institute and a Masters in Social Anthropology from London School of Economics.

In 2015, he was a Tedx 2015 speaker on his research “Light on the Lotus Hill”.

Chan Ngee 灿艺 was founded in 1969 in Singapore by the parent company Thye Nam 泰南公司 to cater to the booming demand in Chinese antiques, arts and crafts in the 1970-1980s, dealing in retail and wholesale for regional countries from Singapore to Indonesia and Malaysia.
