Introduction to Action Research

Description

Facilitated by: Dr Joyce Koh Hwee Ling (Associate Professor, Learning Sciences & Technologies, National Institute of Education, Singapore)

Action research is a disciplined process of inquiry. In educational contexts, it is often used by instructors to determine the outcomes of their lesson design; and to guide instructors to make improvements to their instructional strategies.

This 2-hour talk will provide an overview of the action research process, the skills involved for instructors to undertake action research, and considerations to be taken to plan and implement a feasible and manageable action research project.

Examples of completed action research in educational contexts will also be shared with participants who will also be invited to engage in preliminary brainstorming with the speaker about possible action research projects that can be carried out in their own classes.

About the facillitator:

Dr Joyce Koh is an Associate Professor in LST. She specialises in research areas of teacher knowledge development, online facilitation pedagogies, instructional patterns in technology-mediated learning environments and instructional design and corporate training.
