米国発のテキスタイルデザインブランド、Maki & MphoのリードデザイナーであるMpho Muendane（ムポ・ムエンダネ）の初来日を機に、世界に一つしかないSoup Stock Tokyoの異業態、also Soup Stock Tokyoの店舗をお借りして、一夜限りのギャラリーショップをオープン！自身のカルチャーを新しい形で発信するムポによるデザイナー・トーク＆ギャラリーパーティーにぜひお越し下さい！
・ムポ・ムエンダネの紹介
南アフリカ・モザンビーク・タンザニア・ザンビアのクオーターというルーツを持ち、米国生まれで、南アフリカ育ちという多様なカルチャーの中で育ったムポは、独自の意志と視点で、シンプルな線使いと、大胆なリピート柄を生み出し、南アフリカや米国でElleやBoston Globeなどのメディアにも取り上げられました。

第一部：デザイナー・トーク / 7時オープン、7時半よりトーク（通訳あり）
そもそも「テキスタイルデザイン」とは？なぜ彼女はデザイナーになったのか？彼女がデザインと通じて、世界に発信したいメッセージとは？それぞれのデザインに込められたストーリーは？といった内容をテーマに、デザイナー自ら展示の説明やデザインプロダクトのご紹介をします。
第一部：デザイナー・トーク / 7時オープン、7時半よりトーク（通訳あり）
親近感と新鮮さが同居したユニークなデザインはどう生まれるのか。以前クライアントワークもしていたムポですが、独自の表現に強いこだわりをもっています。そのこだわりは、各地を点々とする生活の中、自然と生まれたものです。ムポは、アパルトヘイト政策下、南アフリカからの難民として米国に移住せざるえなくなった両親のもと米国で生まれ、政策廃止直後の南アフリカで教育を受けました。さまざまな境遇に置かれたからこそ、その境遇に左右されずに、どこにいても自分らしく生きたいという想いが生まれ、それがデザイン活動にも反映されています。
トークでは、そういったデザイン活動に対するムポならではの視点と、手描きもチーフから生まれるそれぞれのデザインや展示品に込められたストーリーを皆様にご紹介します。
第二部：ギャラリー・パーティー
WineとDesignをじっくりとお楽しみいただく時間です。デザイナー・ムポとの交流、展示鑑賞やギフトショッピングをお楽しみください！

It's a holiday season! Treat yourself with fine wine and divine design!
As Maki & Mpho's Creative Director Mpho Muendane comes to Japan for the first time, we invite you to our one-night-only gallery shop party / designer's talk at the one-and-only unique restaurant also Soup Stock Tokyo in Jiyugaoka. The event has two parts. If you can't make it earlier or too busy, just swing by for the part 2!
About Mpho Muendane
Mpho is a U.S. born textile designer with a Mozambican-South African-Tanzanian-Zambian origin who grew up and studied textile design in South Africa. Her bold and modern textile design is originally hand-drawn and inspired by her own culture and inspirations from the African continent. Her work has been featured in several media including Elle South Africa and the Boston Globe.
