About the Speaker


Rajesh Rai is Associate Professor at the South Asian Studies Programme at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Assistant Director at the Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore. He received his PhD on “The Antecedents and Development of Hindu Nationalism in the BJP, 1980-98” from the University of Birmingham in 2001. He holds a M.A. in Modern and Contemporary World History from Birmingham and a B.A. in Political Science and History from NUS. Dr Rai's interests are in the fields of diaspora studies and transnational identities, nationalism, and the postcolonial history and politics of South Asia.
