Mindfulness 101 - A 4-Weeks Intro to Mindful Living (16 Nov)

Adapted from the world-renowned Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, this is a 4-week introduction program (4 weekly sessions of 90 minutes each) that combines experiential training, teacher-led meditation exercises and action-learning discussions to support participants in developing a sound mindfulness practice.

(Homework assignments of daily meditation practices lasting 10–15 minutes will also be assigned. Training materials and audio files will be provided.)
Lim Han Ee, a performance psychologist, is a fully qualified mindfulness instructor from the Center for Mindfulness (CFM) @ UMass – the origins and home of the MBSR program. He has trained directly under the guidance of Jon Kabat-Zinn, Saki Santorelli and Florence Meleo-Mayer to deliver the MBSR program. He has a Masters in Performance Psychology (JFKU).
Charlene Teo, a psychotherapist and educator, is a certified teacher of the Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) program and the Paws b and .b mindfulness curriculums. She works with clients from all walks of life and conducts sessions that are empowering, creative and constructive. She has a Masters in Counseling (Swinburne).

What happens if I miss classes?
You can attend the same session in other runs of the program.
I can’t sit still for more than 5 minutes – how am I going to do this practice?
Don’t worry, you are not the only one – I also couldn’t stay still when I first started my meditation practice. You will be surprised at what evolves over the course of the program. We will support you as you work through this new experience and learn to embrace the process.

What happens in a session?
Each session places an emphasis on experiential learning. Therefore, a majority of the time will be spent on instructor-led practices. Using the experiences of our participants, we will then together develop insights and learning points through dialogue and group interaction.
You mentioned home assignments. What are these?
The assignments will be meditation exercises (e.g. sitting meditation) using MP3 recordings as guidance. The daily practices are a critical aspect of the program.
