About the Artist

Born 2nd July 1982, Amrit Samaroo has always been inspired by the work of his father, Jit Samaroo. Playing pan from his formative years and enjoying success as a pannist, Amrit’s passion was arranging music for steel band. He stood out as an arranger for junior competitions and took numerous bands to the National Panorama finals in senior competition, including BP Renegades (2008 & 2009), when he stood as arranger after his father's retirement.

Internationally, Amrit has arranged panorama music for Adlib Steel Orchestra, Long Island, New York, is the musical director of the Steel Sensation Steelband, Queens, New York, and arranger for the Pantime Steel Orchestra in St. Lucia since 2005. Amrit's mark on the steelband world has been made with the Supernovas Steel Orchestra, as founder, band leader and musical director. Since its inception in 2010, Supernovas has soared to greatness, winning awards and recognition in Trindad and Tobago at the national level. They also collaborate with institutions, at home and abroad to host educational programmes and unique concert events.

Amrit has also composed memorable “made-for-pan” calypsoes such as “Brazilian Flag Woman”, “T.K.O.” and the popular “Band from Space”. He has conducted workshops in pan-playing techniques, steelband history and steelband arranging at the 'Pan New England Steel Band Festival' (2008); and Panorama Arranging at the 'PANorama Steel Band Festival' (2011) and 'PANfest' (2015) in Virginia Beach.

Amrit is currently a player and a staff arranger of the National Steel Symphony Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago where he performs for world leaders and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, King Juan Carlos of Spain and the United States President Barack Obama.
