Frequenly Asked Questions

If I had class on Friday, can I join?
We will issue a letter for you to apply leave from your school upon request.

I’m not a Computer Science / IT Student, can I join?
Sure you can ;) as long you love a challenge, this is definitely the competition that you want to join. Do note that we recommend at least one of your teammates / you to have a basic command of programming languages in order to compete.

Can I form team with students from other university?

Of course!

I’m a high school student, can I join?

We have decided to allow high school students to join, because it is a good exposure to them. We recommend high school students to join as a team, and inform your parents / guardian about this overnight event.

What do we do throughout the whole night?
You are free even during the rounds. You can take a nap, play board games, enjoy snacks, or just talk with each other in the lounge, during the rounds or breaks. The overall atmosphere will be relaxing, so be prepared for a journey full of brainstorms and fun!
/*we are trying to acquire gaming consoles for you guys to have fun also so stay tuned! no promises yet tho ;) */

What is the registration fee for?
Registration fee is to cover the cost of the event. This is a student-led initiative and we are running on very low funding to make this happen. If you are really interested in participating the event and in need of financial aid, speak to any one of us by sending us an email at unicodecontest@gmail.com :) we are always happy to help students out.

I’m a diploma / year one undergraduate student, how can I benefit from the contest?
While you might not be the best in the contest in terms of programming and problem solving skills, just give it a try! You would get to interact with students from different universities, broaden your network, and even meet with potential employers and industry partners in our event! Being well connected helps when you are looking for jobs when you graduate young Padawans ;)

How do I prepare for the contest?
You can try to solve the competitive programming problems that can be found online.

How will students be judged?
This is the interesting part. You know how other competition has judges and you need to pitch your ideas to them in order to win righhhhhtttttt? ;) For our contest you will only need to submit your source code to our server and our automated judging system will take care of the rest.
