What is Ex Libris or Bookplate?
The bookplate, or ex libris, is a label placed on the inside of the front cover of a book.
Since the fifteenth century, distinguished artists and their patrons have given serious attention to this art form. It represents a miniature art developed to adorn books and a convenient, individualized way for the book’s owner to be identified.

Chua Chon Hee 蔡春喜 (Singapore)

Chua Chon Hee is a local artist who works extensively with various mediums. Graduating from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1982, she was involved in fine arts education for many years, and is now dedicated to her artistic creation.

In recent years, she has focused on ceramics and prints as her main mediums of creation. Most of her works are inspired by nature. Surrounded by numerous tropical plants that she has cultivated in her home garden, it stimulates and enthuse her art, entrenched in traditional yet shifting easily back and forth from modernity. Her art possesses the characteristic of a humble organic as the artist strives to relate her art to traditions, yet making it equally significant with her exploration in a contemporary way. Apart from the inspiration from nature, her works are also rooted in the Zen thinking of "being in the moment", and she chooses to portray these inspirations using physical objects like leaves or clay in their raw form.

Chon Hee has held solo exhibitions, and has also been involved in many group and major overseas exhibitions. Her collections can be in many hotels, corporations, as well as with private collectors. Most recently, she held an exhibition in collaboration with Oh Chai Hoo, also a local artist, and was involved in the ASEAN Graphic Art Competition and Exhibition 2012, which was held in Vietnam.
