Join us for an amazing panel discussion happening on the 11th of August! Key esteemed experts from the social impact technological ecosystem, ranging from venture capital, corporates, to social enterprises, will be at the Hub Singapore to share with you their insights on this emerging field.


On the panel, we are excited to have Monica Tsai, Senior Director for Singtel Innov8, venture capital arm of Singtel Group which invests in and partners with innovative startups worldwide, Vishal Harnal, Partner at 500 Startups, a global venture capital firm and accelerator with a portfolio of over 1,500 companies across 50 countries, Alvin Ng, Chief Coach at UNFRAMED, Co-founder at AfterYou, an online marketplace for homeowners to find and hire freelance home helpers nearby and Assem K Thakur, co-founder of GIVE.Asia, Asia’s leading charity and personal crowdfunding platform.


In addition to the panel session, learn more about Singtel Future Makers – a six-month programme that provides young, passionate entrepreneurs with socially impactful ideas a unique opportunity to grow their organisation and scale their social impact in ways that will help shape the future success of Singapore.


Singtel Future Makers aims to help build and support an ecosystem of change agents, innovation, capacity building and collaboration that will help transform the lives of the needy and the vulnerable in the community, as well as support care givers and Voluntary Welfare Organisations.

Monica Tsai

Monica is Senior Director for Singtel Innov8 and supports the fund’s investment activities as well as the fund’s operations since 2011 in Singapore. Singtel Innov8, the venture capital arm of Singtel Group, invests in and partners with innovative startups worldwide. It has a fund size of US$250m.

Prior to Innov8, Monica was Director of Strategic Investments at Singtel, where her remit included coordinating and executing M&A activities undertaken by the Singtel Group. Before that, Monicaworked at Publigroupe, a media company in Switzerland, and Capital One Financials in the US.

Monica received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Operational Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University. She also has an MBA from INSEAD.


Vishal Harnal

Vishal is a Partner at 500 Startups, a global venture capital firm and accelerator with a portfolio of over 1,500 companies across 50 countries. Based out of Singapore, Vishal was brought on to lead and scale 500’s operations in South-East Asia. Vishal’s efforts at not only investing, but building the teams, systems, processes and operations have enabled 500 to become the most active venture capital firm in the region. In the past 24 months, 500 Startups has invested in over 120 of the region’s most promising, high-growth startups including Grab, Carousell, Bukalapak, KFit and 99.co. Prior to joining 500, Vishal practiced law for 5 years at a global top-ranked firm, Drew & Napier, in Asia-Pacific’s top-ranked dispute resolution team. In that role, he advised and represented conglomerates and governments on some of the world’s most complex, high-stakes and sensitive commercial and political disputes.


Alvin Ng


Alvin is the co-founder of AfterYou, an online marketplace for homeowners to find & hire freelance home helpers nearby. His passion for startups and drive to make scalable social impact bring him to UNFRAMED, where he now develops program curriculum and coaches startup teams to reach sustainable impact. He is also an alumni of the NUS Overseas Collage in Stockholm, during which he has immersed in cultures that are vastly different from Asia.


His expertise is in business development, technology integration and user experience; a unique combination that enables him to identify scalable business opportunities in previously untapped markets. His recent achievement is deploying a tech platform that capitalises on the billion dollar home services market in Singapore.


Assem K Thakur

Aseem is the co-founder of GIVE.asia, Asia’s leading charity and personal crowdfunding platform that has raised over S$ 10 million dollars for social causes. He also runs Givola Labs which is a digital innovation consultancy that is built on simple business model of doing interesting work for interesting clients.


He is a regular speaker at international nonprofit technology related conferences and has co-authored articles in a charity fundraising book published by Resource Alliance. GIVEasia has won several awards including SPRING NTU Ideas.inc challenge, President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Special Mention Award and PACT Incubator Programme by DBS Foundation


Aseem did his Bachelors degree as a Singapore Airlines scholar from National University of Singapore and studied technology entrepreneurship from Stanford University. He is a Karate black belt, enjoys playing soccer and co-inventor of two patents from his days working at a biomedical device startup in Silicon Valley.
