HOWLS MOVING CASTLE: Studio Ghibli FestivalStudio Ghibli

Join us for the widely imaginative HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE. This Oscar nominated film remains one of the most well-known films in acclaimed animator Hayao Miyazaki’s collection. Filled with anti-war themes as a response to the Iraq War, Howl’s Moving Castle has a rich story with a range of memorable and characters and beautiful animation.

Sophie is an 18 year-old hatter who is cursed by the Witch of the Waste and is transformed into a 90-year old women. In search for a cure, she ends up working as a cleaning lady in a magical moving castle run by a wizard named Howl who is often using his magic to stop a war with a neighboring country.

“This is is something like the Holy Grail of animation: A film with all the joy and wonder of a Miyazaki movie, plus a story as sophisticated as his phenomenal animation.”– Tasha Robinson, AV Club.

“Palaces and shimmering lakes, warplanes and fire sprites all come to life at the breath of Miyazaki’s graphic genius.”-Richard Corliss, Time Magazine.
