About the Breakfast Briefing:

This breakfast briefing provides a concise overview of market entry structures and regulatory requirements in Australia with respect to foreign direct investments. It is aimed at senior executives of multinational companies planning to invest into Australia through their regional headquarters in Singapore. The seminar will outline structures commonly adopted by foreign businesses when investing into Australia. In doing so, we will share our practical experience from recent transactions and offer the opportunity of a question and answer session or roundtable discussion.

Topics include:
• Market entry considerations – overview of the Australian market, its trade and economic opportunities and of different market entry structures.
• Regulatory requirements – overview of foreign investment regulations in relevant industry sectors
• Setting up and operating an Australian business – overview of the process and legal and tax implications of setting up an Australian company within a multinational group.

David P. Selig,
Partner at Addisons, a leading commercial law firm in Sydney, specialises in initial public offerings, public capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and general compliance with the Corporations Act and ASX Listing Rules. David’s experience encompasses private legal practice, in-house counsel and investment banker, including a period of more than four years in London, primarily with leading commercial law firm Allen & Overy. David regulary advises international clients on their investments into Australia, including advising on foreign investment regulations and market entry structures.

Dr Angelika Yates, Special Counsel at Addisons, is an experienced corporate lawyer specialising in M&A and equity capital markets transactions. Prior to joining Addisons in 2015, Angelika was a partner at Luther, a leading commercial law firm based in Germany with several international offices, including in Singapore and Shanghai. Angelika is dually qualified in German and Australian law and has practiced in Sydney, London and Cologne. During the course of her career, Angelika has advised numerous European clients on their investments into the Asia-Pacific region. Angelika also regularly advises her clients on general corporate law matters and commercial contract negotiations.
