What is STEM? / About Us

STEM stands for "Science, Technology , Engineering, and Math". STEM encompasses fields that are considered the core technological underpinning of an advanced society. STEM Center USA was co-founded by Melissa & Lavanya Jawaharlal, sisters and mechanical engineers with a passion for promoting STEM literacy for all. The Jawa Sisters believe in exciting students about STEM through fun, hands-on experience where real, meaningful learning occurs. In our programs, the "soft skills" of developing confidence, an "I can do this" attitude, and "mistakes are the best way to learn" mentality is just as important as the "hard skills" of programming, building, and design skills. STEM Center USA programs have been recognized by Vice President Joe Biden and appeared on the "Shark Tank" in Winter 2016.
