Edible Mushroom Cultivation Workshop #1

First and foremost, thank you for your interest in attending this series of workshops. I am indeed overwhelmed and humbled.

In this 3-part workshop, I hope to share with you the wonders and beauty of fungi, mushroom cultivation techniques, keys to sustainable fungi cultivation, and mushroom recipes. Participants are welcome to share their own secret recipes too!

Week 1 (3 hours): 2nd April Saturday [10am - 1pm]
- Introduction to fungi cultivation
- Making liquid cultures of 2 edible mushroom species- Pleurotus djamor (Pink Oyster) and Pleurotus pulmonarius (Phoenix Oyster)
- Making grain spawn of the 2 species

Week 2 (2 hours): 9th April Saturday [4pm-6pm]
- Fungi Appreciation walk in MacRitchie reservoir
Grain spawns take around 2 weeks to be ready, so while waiting, let's go for a walk!
(We know that some of you may not be able to commit 3 Saturdays, so this walk will be optional for those who cannot make it!)

Week 3 (3 hours): 16th April Saturday [10am - 1pm]
- Making mushroom bags with grains from week 1
- Making a small fruiting chamber

Please take note that for weeks 1 and 3, it is necessary for you to take a shower before coming in freshly laundered clothes, and to avoid any contact with soil as much as possible. This is to minimise any risks of contamination when we do the inoculations.

*Price for 3-part workshop- $180 per person for all 3 sessions.

Price for the workshops includes all materials and cultures, and participants will get to take home their own liquid cultures and mushroom bags to fruit at home. Participants will also be taught how to continue the process on their own, ensuring a sustainable source of mushroom goodness.

Due to our current set-up, we can only cater to 15 participants. We are now located in an industrial building which serves as our temporary housing before we shift to bigger, better facilities in July. So for those attending the workshops, we hope that you understand why we are bare bones with the space. This also means that we are not running air-conditioners, so keep this in mind if it could be an issue for you. But don't worry, fungi are really cool- they don't require any fluff to make them more interesting!

If the demand for this workshop is strong, we will hold similar 3-part workshops in subsequent months.

May the fungus among us connect us all!
