“Say anything,” he said. “You can’t make a mistake when you improvise”
– Patti Smith (Just Kids)
Indeed, improvisation is freeing. However, it takes practice to let go of your inhibitions and self-consciousness when performing. To improvise well, you need to trust your partners, accept the unforeseen and follow your instincts.
What makes The Harold more exciting and challenging than most improv games, is the long-form format. You’ll learn to build a whole story from start to finish, incorporate unexpected ideas from audience members, and surprise others with the twist and turns in your performance. You’ll be taught a variety of theatrical techniques including editing a scene, using narrative elements and physicalizing your choices. At the end of the workshop, you’ll perform a Harold in front of an audience.
