SPEAKER

Carolyn Kan, Jewellery Designer

Carrie K. tells stories through playfully-provocative, artisan-crafted jewellery.

A former managing director of an international advertising agency, Carolyn Kan took a year off the corporate race to travel. She had an epiphany when she was learning to silversmith in Florence and Carrie K. Artisan Jewellery was created in July 2009.

Just a year later, in 2010, Kan won ELLE Awards “Jewellery Designer of the Year”. This helped catapult Carrie K. from a successful Singapore jewellery label into an international export label. Carrie K. is represented by Yuji Yamamoto in Japan and has since shown at Paris Fashion Week, Seoul Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. Carrie K. is now distributed in concept stores in 8 countries and has launched Carrie K. fine jewellery and bespoke services.

In 2011, Carrie K. started Keepers, a pro-bono, quarterly artisans showcase, to help make the work of independent designers, artisans and artisans more accessible and appreciated. It grew via word-of-mouth and in September 2014, with the support of Singapore Tourism Board and Spring Singapore, Carrie K. co-organised with the Textile and Fashion Federation, KEEPERS: Singapore Designer Collective. A 4,200 square foot pop-up in the heart of Orchard Road. The objective was to spotlight our Singapore design talent from diverse categories like fashion, to furniture to food. With the overwhelming reception, the 5 months pop-up was extended for almost another year and will be coming to an end in January 2016. Following KEEPERS Orchard is the KEEPERS retail pop-up at Changi Airport Terminal 1 and a KEEPERS Atelier pop-up at the National Design Centre which is run until 10th January 2016 themed “Playtime”.
