Spoken Word Event – Pontianak

Description

Pontianak explores the way women and ‘the feminine’ have been systematically demonized, their stories buried, their collective and individual power taken away from them, their role in society demeaned and diminished and their natural, universal status as goddesses removed, through traditional patriarchal narratives told as myth and legend. Drawing from the ghost stories and folklore that permeated our childhood nightmares and imagination, Pontianak is a re-imagining of the witch and of the feminine told through the spoken word poetry of five different women contemporary poets.

Poets/Performers: Elaine Foster, Sheena Baharudin, Melizarani T. Selva, Ilya Sumanto and Nabila Najwa.
