Pre-Hackathon Bootcamp

About Pre-Hackathon Bootcamp

Through the observations of many hackathons of different themes, length, locations, and feedback gathered from the participants, we found that providing pre-hack training before the hackathon will greatly enhance the experience of participants, that opens up their mind to learn more about the available technologies, which leads them to think in-depth about the potential features that can be built to their solutions. Therefore, we structure a series of training that equip participants with skillset in frontend, backend and mobile technologies.

Front End Development

HTML5 - HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is used for structuring and presenting content on the Internet. HTML5 is the latest standard that focuses on enhancing user experience. it is a full environment for cross-platform applications with access to device capabilities, video and animations, graphics, and many more. Mastering HTML5 allows developers to build cutting edge and next generation applications, including cross-platform applications that can seamlessly run on both desktop browsers and mobile phones.

CSS3 - the latest standard of Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), packed with many new features that enhances web user interface visual effects, from opacity to text-shadow, transforms to animations, and many more. It has unleashed the potential of visual designs to enable web designer to create parallax designs, grid based framework and responsive websites that cater for devices of different sizes.

jQuery - JavaScript is introduced since 1995 to add programs that enhance interactivity to web pages. While JavaScript made modern web pages possible, the different levels of support provided by browsers have made life of web developers difficult. jQuery is a lightweight, "write less, do more”, JavaScript library, which makes it much easier to use and write JavaScript code. Jquery seamlessly handles all cross-browser issues by standardizing the syntax across common tasks, and bridging the gaps between HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Ruby on Rails - As a beginner, it is daunting to pick up a backend language. There are many frameworks available that suit different purposes and rails is one of the most popular. Beginners can easily pick up Rails as Ruby is light and easy to learn. Ruby is flexible but robust at the same time, making it easy for developers to scale their applications in future. The Ruby on Rails communities are one of the most active ones, power users answering questions on forums and Stack Overflow, making it easier for beginners to reach out and seek for help.

Mobile Applications Development

IONIC - While the blooming number of mobile devices might be a great news for consumers, since they are now spoilt with choices at a competitive price range. Dealing with multiple mobile devices and writing codes for both Android and IOS is a night mare. Hybrid mobile application framework such as Ionic is designed to address this issue.
