"Read with Me" is a coming of age play that discusses social issues that are directly relevant to contemporary living. The audiences are part of an imaginary classroom environment set by the actors. In this journey, the audience will experience unlikely stories shared by their fellow students and they will be invited to unpack and find meaning behind the poem "Invictus: by William Ernest Henley.

Inspired by the theories and methods of contemporary performance making such as Augusto Boal, Peter Brook and Richard Schechner, the process will uncover the voices behind the youths of today. The actors will present their personal monologues that has been carefully researched and developed. As the play moves along the text Invictus becomes richer and exposes the universal suffrage of mankind. The poem also provides solace in its moral message to be resilient in times of difficulties.

Inspired by the Victorian poem ‘Invictus’; “Read With Me” is a coming of age play celebrating the perseverance of the human spirit as they triumph over troubled times. Recalling upon painful memories, the actors share their personal stories, inspiring us to be better and truly uncover the meaning of Invictus, to be unconquered.
