Assessment Literacy in the Arts: Design of Assessment Rubrics

Description
Assessment Literacy in the Arts: Design of Assessment Rubrics

Facilitator: Dr Leong Wei Shin, NIE (Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Department)

This course provides an overview of assessment literacy in the arts through key elements and principles of assessment rubric design. Participants will review several different types of rubrics (eg. holistic, analytic, general, task-specific rubrics) and discuss their effectiveness for different purposes of assessment (e.g. formative vs summative). Key processes of formative and summative assessment useful for arts subjects (e.g. standardisation, moderation) will also be explained. The participants will be given an opportunity to view and comment on several examples of assessment rubric that have been designed by both arts and non-arts educators. Finally, issues of staff competency in effectively designing and using rubrics would be discussed.
