MaGIC Academy: Entrepreneurial Risk Management
Adam Zechariah is a director with the Advisory practice of EY Malaysia. He has been with EY Malaysia for over 15 years, three of which were spent as an external auditor.
Adam’s experience includes supervision, coordination and overall management of internal audit and risk management assignments as well as the assessment of control environment and the design of internal controls and risk management systems.
He facilitated the development of the enterprise risk management profile for Malaysia’s national water asset management company responsible for owning and developing the water utility infrastructure in peninsular Malaysia. He was also the engagement lead for the risk management engagement of a Bursa Malaysia listed industrial conglomerate listed involved in engineering and construction, manufacturing, foundry operations, port operations and oil and gas services.
Adam’s experience abroad includes as engagement lead for the enterprise risk management exercise for a construction conglomerate’s operations in India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia; as well as for the largest local Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) conglomerate in Sri Lanka and the national stock exchange in Sri Lanka. He has also provided subject-matter support on risk management practices for enterprise risk management engagements in Vietnam for one of the largest local soft drinks manufacturers and a local pharmaceutical contract manufacturer.
Other engagements that Adam has been involved in include the formalisation of the enterprise risk management practices of a state government linked entity involved in property development, general construction, road works and quarries; and a review of the risk management framework for a Real-Estate Investment Trust (REIT) as part of the requirements of the capital markets regulator in respect of the maintenance of a suitable risk management function in such capital market intermediaries.
Adam holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland and a Bachelor of Accountancy (BAcc) degree from the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
